Dave Bakulski

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addictions Counselor, Dave offers more than 14 years of experience providing warm, compassionate, empathic, client-centered, strength-based therapy to all of his clients. Dave prides himself in customizing his practice as a Lakewood therapist to each client, but he identifies primarily with cognitive behavioral therapy in his work.

Dave has been working for more than 14 years in settings as diverse as inpatient and community agency locations but has been focusing on individual and adult therapy for the past 6 years. Dave’s work as a Lakewood therapist addresses a wide range of issues, from mood disorders (depression, anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, grief and loss) to more specific problems such as addictions and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Regarding Dave’s work with clients having trauma issues, he finds his experience with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to be particularly effective.

Dave as a Lakewood therapist is a strong adherent of Carl Rogers’ philosophy of unconditional positive regard and values each client’s unique experience as being the focal point of the healing process. Subsequent to earning his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Dave earned his Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Colorado Denver in 2010. Dave graduated from CU Boulder in 1994 where he also earned a BA in English Literature.

Dave pursued his interest in the arts & humanities after college by working as a professional musician and continues to perform in local bands. In additional to these extracurricular activities, Dave has been married for since 2009. He and his wife are the parents of a boy and girl, ages 6 and 2 respectively. Dave believes his life experience is an essential aspect of the therapy process and recognizes that the rapport between client and therapist is a primary contributor to successful outcomes in therapy. He looks forward to learning and assisting his clients in a manner consistent with their needs.
