Dr. Andrew Harris is a licensed professional counselor, psychologist, behavioral health leader, and trauma expert with more than 16 years of experience serving children, adolescents, adults, and families across child welfare, public education, criminal justice systems, youth corrections, and community mental health settings. Dr. Harris holds a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from the University of Colorado Denver and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Dr. Harris is the Founder and Clinical Director of Colorado Mental Health Network (CMHN), a behavioral health organization with locations in Englewood, Montbello, and Boulder, Colorado. Under his leadership, CMHN provides comprehensive behavioral health services including individual and family therapy, psychological evaluations, parent coaching, family reunification services, substance use treatment, and consultation for schools, courts, probation departments, and community agencies. His work focuses on expanding access to high-quality mental health care for underserved and system-involved populations while promoting culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices.
Throughout his career, Dr. Harris has developed extensive expertise in trauma, including complex trauma, developmental trauma, intergenerational trauma, child abuse and neglect, and trauma experienced within child welfare and criminal justice systems. His professional experience includes conducting child safety investigations, court-ordered placement evaluations, psychological assessments, and trauma-informed interventions for children and families
experiencing significant adversity. He has worked extensively with neurodivergent youth and individuals with developmental, intellectual, learning, and physical disabilities, collaborating with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to improve behavioral, emotional, and academic outcomes.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Harris has experience providing expert testimony and consultation regarding trauma, child development, family systems, child welfare, abuse dynamics, and the impact of traumatic experiences on children and families. His background in child protection, psychological assessment, trauma treatment, and systems-level intervention allows him to offer informed perspectives on the effects of trauma across developmental, educational, and family contexts.
Dr. Harris has extensive experience supporting students within public school systems through psychoeducational assessment, behavioral consultation, parent coaching, and direct therapeutic services. His training in both school psychology and clinical mental health counseling provides a unique perspective that bridges educational and behavioral health systems. He utilizes evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and trauma-informed interventions to support individuals across the lifespan.
A passionate advocate for underserved populations, Dr. Harris remains committed to reducing barriers to care and promoting equitable access to mental health services. His doctoral dissertation, Mental Health: The Role of Racial and Cultural Concordance, examined how cultural responsiveness influences engagement and treatment outcomes in mental health services and contributed to ongoing conversations surrounding access, trust, and equity in behavioral health care.
Dr. Harris is also a published author. His debut novel, Dr. Mind and the Biracial Misfit Part I, was released in 2021, and his forthcoming children’s book, Here Come the Maybes, continues his commitment to promoting mental health awareness, resilience, and positive identity development among youth. Through his clinical leadership, research, advocacy, and service, Dr.Harris remains dedicated to strengthening families, advancing the behavioral health profession, and improving outcomes for individuals and communities throughout Colorado.
